The LSEC (Bromley Campus) Therapy Team offers Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy services. The service aims to enable students to access the college curriculum and increase their participation to the best of their abilities.
We support teaching staff to adapt their teaching, interaction and learning environment. We achieve this by supporting and providing therapeutic approaches that fit within the curriculum delivery.
Support provided includes assessment of a student’s needs within the college context. These may differ from their needs in school, as the focus is on developing life skills. We also:
Where possible, we liaise with therapy teams in the schools the students are transitioning from. This supports a better transition.
Students who attend Nido Volans Centre come from different boroughs. If home support is needed, this will be provided by the health and social care teams in their borough.
The LSEC (Bromley Campus) Therapy Team provides support at three levels:
Universal therapy support aims to ensure the college environment supports all students’ sensory processing, mobility, independence, communication and interaction needs. We achieve this by offering general training to college staff, providing general resources and information and advising on equipment and policies. All students benefit from this work.
Targeted therapy support addresses more specific needs. For instance, students who require specific communication, sensory or physical support. We achieve this by offering targeted training to relevant college staff and providing class resources and strategies. Specific groups of students benefit from this work.
Specialised therapy support is for individual students with special needs as identified by their EHCP, course tutor or the student. The student requires individualised assessment and recommendations from either OT, SaLT or physiotherapy. We provide individualised care that college staff will implement.
To access this service, you must:
You can self-refer to this service if you have the capacity to do so and there is a clear need for therapy. Where a student cannot consent to therapy support, a decision will be made in their best interest.
Direct therapy support may not be provided if:
The LSEC (Bromley Campus) Therapy team can refer or sign-post students on to other services if community health and social care support is needed.
