Our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Liaison and Crisis Team supports people under the age of 18 who are experiencing a mental health crisis.
We complete emergency assessments with you in the acute trust setting. This assessment helps us identify what immediate support you require so you can return home. We focus on managing current crisis situations, so we do not provide a diagnosis or long-term treatment. We prioritise practical strategies to help you manage the distress you are feeling right now.
When you return home, we schedule a follow-up appointment within the next seven days. In this appointment, we will think about and discuss your future support needs and review how helpful the management strategies were.
After the follow-up appointment, you will be discharged from our team and referred to a service which can provide ongoing support. Currently, we do not work with children or young people after their seven-day follow-up appointment.
Sometimes, we offer telephone support to children, young people and their families who are working with a community CAMHS team but require extra support outside working hours. This time-limited support service aims to build skills that help you self-manage your mental health.
